This great-grandmother was born on February 21, 1911 in Luc-sur-Orbieu. Her childhood was not always easy. She left school when she was 12, taking care of her 9-year-old brother Yves. She experienced her father’s departure for the Great War, returned with a wound and atrocious memories. Her mother is then forced to work hard to provide for the family.
She started working in Tourouzelle, at the Rouquier cafe, as a waitress. It was in this village that she met her future husband Jean Delfour, who died in 1967 and died of an illness at just 60 years of age. From their union, three daughters will be born: Marie-Thérèse, Simone and Yvette. Six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren will follow.
Seasonal work
All her life, Rose Delfour would spare no effort, taking part, among other things, in seasonal work in the vineyard. Even pregnant, she participated in the harvest. Her husband worked at the Tourouzelle distillery. After Jean’s death, Yvette entered the service of a couple from this village to clean up.
It is only in recent years that Rose Delfour has joined Pezens to live with her daughter Yvette and her son-in-law Manuel Fernandez. This Friday, the centenary was surrounded by these two girls Yvette and Simone and a delegation from the town hall for her birthday with bubbles that she did not want to taste, although sometimes she likes a little rosé.
