Peugeot is going to restore classic models and kicks off with the 205 GTi | NOW

With exclusive and expensive brands like Ferrari, it is not uncommon to leave your classic behind for a thorough restoration. This is not yet commonplace for volume brands. At Peugeot they see it as good and the brand therefore starts with the restoration and sale of classic models.

This takes place in the workshop of the Musée de l’Aventure Peugeot in Sochaux, France, where the first restored copies are due to leave the factory next year. Such models receive a certificate of authenticity, after which they are offered for sale.

This is possible because significant steps have been taken in building up stocks of parts in the past seven years. In addition, the department responsible for the restoration calls on suppliers to re-produce scarce or missing parts. If that fails, Peugeot will use 3D printers to make the part in question.

If you are in possession of a classic Peugeot, you can also go for a restoration. For that, the car must be in fair condition. So it seems that the French brand will not venture into rusty and neglected ones from farm sheds in the countryside, the so-called barn finds.

Peugeot 205 GTi is first candidate

The new activity kicks off with one of the brand’s most iconic models: the Peugeot 205 GTi. That car came on the market in 1984. Initially with a 105 hp 1.6 liter engine, but later also with a 131 hp block with a capacity of 1.9 liters. The model is widely regarded as one of the best small sports cars of all time.

The Peugeot 205 GTi could be recognized by its fog lights, red piping on the bumpers and sides and the letters ‘GTi’ on the C-pillar. Peugeot mounted sports seats inside. And the cars had a bright red carpet.
