Petrol and diesel prices drop again in Spain

MADRID – Fuel prices in Spain have been rising and / or falling for months and this week both petrol and diesel are cheaper again, according to the European Union’s Weekly Oil Bulletin. From 1 April, everyone will immediately receive a 0.20 euro / liter discount at the cash desk. The prices listed below are without that extra discount you only get upon checkout at the pump. This also applies to AVERAGE prices which may vary by region, province and petrol station in Spain.

In the Weekly oil bulletin of the European Union, the (average) price trend of fuels within the European Union is updated every week. In Spain, 11,400 petrol stations are being investigated across the country.

Average cost in Spain right now a liter of petrol (petrol) 1,708 euros while a liter of diesel (gasóleo) costs 1,876 euros. From April 1, the extra discount of € 0.20 was added, so that at the checkout the petrol is € 1,508 and a liter of diesel is € 1,676.

ATTENTION: From Friday 1st April until 31st December 2022, fuel prices are cheaper because the Spanish government is offering a discount of € 0.20 per liter at the pump. This discount is immediately deducted from the price to be paid after refueling (but it is not visible on the price indication on the pump itself).

With these prices it currently costs to fill in Tank 55 liters of petrol 93.94 euros. Currently, filling a 55 liter diesel tank 103.18 euros. PLEASE NOTE: By subtracting the discount of 0.20 euros per liter, filling a 55-liter petrol tank at the pump costs 82.94 euros and a 55-liter diesel tank costs 92.18 euros.

These are average prices that may vary in Spanish regions, provinces and municipalities. The lower level of final fuel prices in Spain compared to neighboring countries is due to the fact that, despite the increase in VAT, higher taxes and duties on biodiesel, Spain generally still has a lower tax burden than the average of European Union.

Spain Netherlands Belgium France European Union Euro countries
Petrol 95 1,708 1,945 1,675 1,554 1,760 1,833
diesel 1,876 1,979 1,934 1,696 1,836 1,874
NOTE: These are MEDIUM prices which do not always correspond to the prices of petrol stations

The lower level of final fuel prices in Spain compared to neighboring countries is due to the fact that, despite the increase in VAT, higher taxes and duties on biodiesel, Spain generally still has a lower tax burden than the average of European Union. In Spain, a petrol 43% and with diesel 38% taxes collected while this is inside The Netherlands 53% for petrol and 42% for diesel is and inside Belgium 43% for petrol and 41% for diesel is.

NOTE: These are the average prices in Spain as shown in Weekly oil bulletin . At the petrol station in Spain the prices are generally different because this depends entirely on where you fill up, in which region, city or on which island (the Canary Islands are generally cheaper).
