Pēteris Pētersons: A Celebration of a Legendary Latvian Director and Playwright

“Pēteris Pētersons is beyond time and the worldly,” agree Juris Vaivods, head of the Musical Department of the Daile Theater, and actor Klāvs Kristaps Košins, speaking in an interview to “Klasika” about the concert performance “Poem for a Gambler” dedicated to the centenary of Pēteris Pētersons, which will be performed on the stage of the Daile Theater in only three performances in the evenings: September 29 and 30, as well as October 1.

Pēteris Pētersons created legendary performances and started the tradition of poetry theater in Latvia. His name is recorded not only in the Golden Fund of the Daile Theater, but also in the canon of Latvian culture. Spectators remember the performances “Spēle, spēlmani”, “Tikai muzikants”, “Shining and dark blue” and others with songs and music that were able to express what could not be expressed directly in words, but what people of that time needed to hear.

In commemoration of the centenary of the director and playwright Pēteras Pētersons, a special concert program “Poem about a gambler” has been created at the Daile Theater in the composition of the artistic director of the Daile Theater Viesturs Kairiš and the head of the musical department Jura Vaivodas.

The actors of Daile Theater Klāvs Kristaps Koshins, Vita Vārpiņa, Ilze Ķuzule-Skrastiņa, Ieva Segliņa, Milena Miškēviča, Kārlis Arnolds Avots, Aldis Siliņš, Katrīna Grig, Madara Viļčukas and Meynards Liepiņš, pianist Matīs Žilinskis, choir “Kamēr…” will take part in the concert performance. also students of the “Dramatic Theater Musical Actor” course of the Daile Theater and Jāzeps Vītolas Academy of Music of Latvia: Agate Grīnhofa, Sintija Ceplauska, Justīne Skutāne, Daniela Muižniece, Henrijs Kozlovskis, Alice Anna Narcika, Annija Bildarte, Daniels Loginovs, Domeniks Slišāns, Gerda Igaune, Tomas Deinis, Toms Kursītis, Kate Kokamegi, Katrīna Altenburg.
