Peru, the four Italian tourists blocked on their way to Cusco

The girls were headed to Bolivia, another stop on their journey, but were then stranded by the protests that had been going on for days in the country

After spending about 36 hours in the bus which was blocked by about a hundred demonstrators, the four girls – three from Bologna and one from Florence – were transferred for the intervention of the Italian embassy in Lima, in connection with those responsible of the local police, in a hostel – the Hospedaje Quinta Rest – where they spent two nights.

It was Opizzi, the only one who had a working cell phone, who sounded the emergency alarm, warning that all the blocked people were living in very difficult conditions. Since former president Pedro Castillo was arrested, riots, marches and roadblocks have taken place throughout Peru that have paralyzed not only traffic by land, but also that in some important airports in central-southern Peru. The program foresees that once they reach the city of Cusco, the girls start the procedures to be able to embark on a direct flight to Lima, to then return to Italy.
