– The man ended up in the water without a life jacket or survival suit. In that water here in this relevant area, it is more likely that he has died than that he is alive, says rescue leader at the Main Rescue Center Thomas Ringen on Sunday night.
Around 11:30 on Sunday morning, they received a message from a Norwegian cargo ship in the area between Kvarøy and Tonnes in Lurøy municipality.
– The crew performed work on deck when they became aware that one of the crew was missing. They tried to call him on the radio, without success, says Alf Hågensen at the Main Rescue Center.
Rescue helicopter and several boats set in search of the man.
Around 14.00, they made discoveries in the water that made them concentrate their search a little further south in the waters, says Alf Hågensen.
– There were very good search conditions in the area, he continues.
After searching for the man both on land and at sea, the search ended without result when darkness fell on Sunday night.
It was also decided that the work would change the status of the search for the presumed deceased person. The work will be resumed on Monday morning.
