A week after the acquittal for Manchester City, star coach Pep Guardiola again criticized the way other clubs deal with the “Citizens”.
Arsenal, who beat City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday, are “very respectful,” Guardiola said, according to the BBC. But only for “what they are in the field”. On the other hand, he had “not much” for the “Gunners” off the pitch.
According to British media, the Londoners are said to have teamed up with seven other clubs to put pressure on the citizens before the International Sports Court (CAS) ruling. The highest sports court overturned the sanction of the European Football Union (UEFA), which, in addition to the European Cup exclusion for two seasons, also fined 30 million euros, on 13 July. All that was left was a penalty payment of ten million euros. The alleged violations of UEFA’s financial rules (Financial Fair Play) are not sufficiently proven or statute-barred, the CAS said. Another reason for Guardiola’s aversion to Arsenal’s behavior could also be that his former assistant Mikel Arteta had been poached by the Gunners last December to take on the post of head coach. The BBC writes that the talks started immediately after Manchester City’s 3-0 league win in London – but without the knowledge of the citizens.
