“The US is announcing an additional $450 million aid package to help Ukraine defend its democracy in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression,” he said.
Kirby elaborated that the package includes highly mobile missile systems and munitions.
“This is the 13th time President Biden has announced a relief package for this crisis. So the total value of the aid we gave to Ukraine is approximately $6.1 billion after February 24 alone,” Kirby added.
According to Associated Pressthe latest package will include four HIMARS MLRS, 18 tactical vehicles, 18 coastal and river patrol boats, thousands of machine guns, grenade launchers and ammunition, as well as some other equipment and spare parts.
In early June, the US reported that four MLRS HIMARS will be sent to Ukraine and shells for them. On June 23, Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov confirmed that American systems already arrived in Ukraine.
