After massive criticism, US Vice President Mike Pence expressed regret that he had not worn a protective mask during a clinic visit last week. He was regularly tested for the corona virus and was therefore assumed that such a measure was not necessary, Pence told Fox News on Sunday evening. “But I should have worn a mask at the Mayo Clinic.” Pence was not wearing a mask last Tuesday, despite the fact that it is required in the Minnesota hospital.

After being criticized for his behavior, Pence then wore a mask during a factory visit to Indiana last Thursday. The Vice President heads the White House Corona Working Group. Since the beginning of April, the US health authority CDC has recommended that healthy people without symptoms should wear cloth masks in public in the fight against the coronavirus. Following the announcement of the recommendation, US President Donald Trump said that the measure was voluntary and that he had decided not to wear a mask.
