Pd terrified in Puglia Emiliano signs an alliance with the former fascist mayor

T he Pd is fruit-driven and joins Casapound to not lose Puglia. It looks like the title of an article on the satirical site Lercio. But it’s all true. The outgoing governor Michele Emiliano enlists in his coalition Pippi Mellone, mayor of Nardò, in the province of Lecce, with a past (never reneged) in the formation of the extreme right. Mellone, who also flirted with Forza Nuova, is the inspirer of the civic list Emiliano Mayor of Italy: among the candidates, in the college of Lecce, there is his councilor for Culture Giulia Puglia. The dem, seduced and abandoned by the government allies of the M5s, fall back on the far right to stop the advance of the center right. It is not a turn of phrase but the umpteenth contradiction that comes from the Nazarene. The bond between Emiliano, outgoing president of Puglia, who will have to contend with Raffaele Fitto, candidate of the center-right, and Mellone is very solid. And it was not scratched even after a recent exit by the mayor of Nardò, who in February called for the closure of the Lecce office of the Anpi, the national association of partisans of Italy. The secretary of the dem Nicola Zingaretti, who continues to launch appeals to the Five Stars (hoping for a split vote), fears the coat in the regional elections on 20 and 21 September. Defeat that could mark his farewell to the Democratic Party secretariat. In Puglia it was not possible to sign the agreement with the Five Star Movement which will run with its own candidate, Antonella Laricchia. Puglia (agreement with the mayor of Casapound) is not an isolated case. Also in Campania, in the lists of the outgoing governor of the Democratic Party Vincenzo De Luca there is a piece of the right. The challenger will be Stefano Caldoro who presents himself with a united center-right. Even in Campania, the M5S throws up the government alliance and presents itself alone with Valeria Ciarambino.

“Agree on everything, divided everywhere”: this is more or less the slogan of the Giallorossi majority that arrives split at the election day (regional, municipal and referendum) of 20 and 21 September. In Rome, Pd, M5s and Renziani seem to be on their honeymoon. In the municipalities and in the 7 regions in the vote they fight over everything. The games are closed: yesterday at 12 the deadline for submitting lists and nominations expired. The mission to transform the government pact into a political alliance has failed: only in Liguria and in a dozen municipalities to vote, lists in hand, Pd, Cinque Stelle and Italia Viva go with common candidates. In Liguria, where the Democratic Party and the Five Stars find an agreement on the name of Ferruccio Sansa, there is however the tear of Italia Viva that runs with Aristide Massardo. Also in Puglia IV and Action are focusing on an autonomous candidacy: Ivan Scalfarotto. The center-right is betting everything on the outgoing governor Giovanni Toti. No surprise in Veneto, Marche and Tuscany: united center-right, divided government majority. In Tuscany, the center-right is on the field with the Northern League’s Susanna Ceccardi, the Pd goes to Eugenio Giani. Irene Galletti is the candidate of the M5s. In the Marche region, Francesco Aquaroli will lead the center-right while the Pd relies on Maurizio Mangialardi. Gianmario Mercorelli is running for the M5s. In Veneto the outgoing president Luca Zaia starts with the favor of the polls. His challengers are, for the Pd, the deputy mayor of Padua and university professor Arturo Lorenzoni and for the M5s the entrepreneur and former senator Enrico Cappelletti. Giallorossi in pieces also in the municipalities to vote: in Venice, Reggio Calabria, Matera and Crotone the Democratic Party is presented without agreement with the 5 stars. And anxiety rises in the Nazarene.
