Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Chairman of the Democratic Party (PD), expressed his hope that the best character would accompany Anies Baswedan as the vice presidential candidate (cawapres). AHY discussed the importance of choosing the right running mate for Anies.
“We are both picking up destiny. We want the best. From the start, I hope that what we are trying to do is first and foremost with good intentions. God willing, we will take care of it,” said AHY after accompanying Anies and his family to Hajj at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Thursday (22/6/2023).
AHY believed that the figure accompanying Anies would be able to bring victory to the party. He acknowledged that many Indonesian people hoped Anies could bring calm to the 2024 presidential election.
“We hope that there will be a good chance of victory too. And we know that many of our people from various circles, in various regions, hope this can happen, and can win the contest,” he said.
According to AHY, the supporting party wants Anies to lead the coalition effectively. As for the declaration of presidential and cawapres candidates, they are still waiting for the right moment.
“Many people are asking when it will be declared soon. Yes, let’s just pray. What is clear is that there are no fundamental things. We really understand that politics is also very complex and dynamic,” said AHY.
“But with optimism and confidence that this ship can sail and the partner is also expected to bring change, victory in the 2024 presidential election can be declared soon,” he continued.
AHY concluded by praying for the smooth pilgrimage of Anies and hoped that he could provide positive energy to the community, especially for changes and improvements.
“Those who go to the Holy Land can perform the pilgrimage, they will definitely get the strength and belief that, God willing, it can be disseminated. It can infect all of us. Positive energy for the struggle for change and improvement,” he said.
