PayPal allows users with an inactive account to pay 12 euros per year – IT Pro – News

PayPal has drafted new terms of use, giving the company the right to impose an inactivity charge on users who are not using their account. For the Dutch and Belgians this comes down to 12 euros per year.

The provision on an inactivity charge if you do not use the account for a year is on page 59 of the new user conditions, so discovered the Belgian Test purchase. According to PayPal, inactivity means “that you have not logged into your PayPal account or otherwise used your PayPal account to send, receive or withdraw money”.

With such inactive accounts, users can thus be presented with an annual bill. The amount varies by country, but seems to be EUR 12 per year for Europeans. If the balance in the account is lower, then only the remaining amount will be charged; users do not seem to end up in the red.

PayPal does not appear to have informed its customers about the new inactivity charge. The new terms of use come into effect on January 4.
