Paying too much for medicine; The new treatment rate for expats in Kuwait is currently | New treatment rates for expats in Kuwait

Kuwait City: New treatment rates have come into effect with major changes in treatment costs for expats. The new order provides for additional drug costs of 5 dinars in primary health clinics and 10 dinars in outpatient clinics.

Previously, the examination fee was two dinars in primary health clinics and hospital emergency rooms. Medicines were free. The inspection fee of two dinars will be retained under the new decision. An additional five dinars will have to be paid for medicines. With this, expats will have to spend seven dinars for examinations and medicines at primary health clinics.

The Ministry of Health has also stated that the examination fee for outpatient clinics will be 10 dinars. Here it will cost 20 dinars for examination and medicine. The Health Ministry’s announcement comes after a ministerial decision to provide higher medical fees for non-residents and those with medical insurance.

The ministry said in a press release that the decision aims to prevent the waste of medicines and improve health services. It was also communicated that some areas will be exempt from the fee. However, it is not specified what they are. The Ministry of Health has announced that the new rate will come into force on Sunday. Low treatment rates in Kuwait have been a relief for expats. With the new decision, expats will have to spend more on treatment.
