Paul Walker Turned Down Multi-Million Dollar Role as Superman in DC Blockbuster

Paul Walker, known from the “Fast & Furious” series, was about to take on the iconic role of Superman in a DC blockbuster from Star Wars director JJ Abrams. However, despite the multi-million dollar deal he was offered, the actor firmly turned down the role as the money wasn’t important to him.

In the documentary “I Am Paul Walker,” Walker’s former manager and his stunt double report on the situation. Walker was considered favorite to play Superman in JJ Abrams’ never-realized project Superman: Flyby.

His manager remembers the star’s clear rejection. So Walker decided against the role because superpowers and tights simply felt unnatural to him. Even the ten million US dollar fee couldn’t change the star’s mind.

As early as 2003, Walker said in an interview that all the money from the potential Superman deal meant nothing to him. He emphasized that he doesn’t need luxury to be happy. Despite interest from Abrams and a large fan movement for the project, Superman: Flyby never came to fruition and was ultimately canceled in 2002. Walker’s rejection probably played a significant role in this.

Presumably the decision not to appear as Superman but as Brian O’Connor in “Fast And Furious” was also the right one financially. By the time of his tragic death shortly before the release of “Fast And Furious 7”, which is the most successful film in the series to date due to Paul Walker’s emotional farewell, Walker will have made well over ten million US dollars with the film series. After his death alone, Walker’s heirs received a double-digit million sum.
