Paul Pogba absent defending Juventus more times last season than appearing on the field. Lack of action, Pogba also made the Bianconeri pay a huge fee to simply reduce the French midfielder.
Pogba suffered a knee injury in July last year, requiring surgery. He only returned to play at the end of February. But after making two appearances (as a reserve), he picked up a muscle injury, keeping him out for about a month.
After recovering, Pogba appeared eight times, seven of them as a backup. However, during his first-ever start in May, he picked up a hamstring injury, keeping him out until the end of the season.
In total, the 30-year-old player only appeared for 161 minutes in 10 matches. If measured by his salary, which reaches 8 million Euros per year (excluding bonuses), Juventus must pay 49,689 Euros (Rp. 827 million) for every minute of action on the field.
This nominal makes Pogba’s actions so expensive when compared to other top footballers. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Pogba’s fee per minute on the pitch was more expensive than last season Lionel Messieven more expensive than Neymar who are prone to injuries and Eden Hazard often suggested last season.
Messi, who earned 35 million Euros last season at Paris Saint-Germain, only earned around 9,623 Euros (Rp. 160 million) per minute, because he made a total of 3,637 minutes which were divided into 41 matches. Neymar, who appeared 29 times last season, was ‘only’ paid 13,124 Euros (Rp. 218 million) per minute.
Meanwhile, Hazard, who played 392 minutes last season with Real Madrid, was paid ‘only’ 38,265 Euros (Rp. 637 million) per minute. Apart from appearing slightly more than Pogba, his salary is also bigger, namely 15 million Euros per year.
Pogba is currently reportedly not in a 100 percent fit condition. Despite taking part in Juventus’ pre-season tour to the United States, he is said to have trained more alone than with the team, which focused on his physical fitness.
He is also doubtful for the opening weekend of Serie A next season against Udinese. But Juventus are still giving him a chance and are confident that Pogba can make a full recovery and deliver the top-class form he used to be.
