literally bulletHorticulturist Paul Fransen faced threats, arson and even a fireworks bomb and bullet letter to his home when he wanted to sell his land as housing for migrant workers. In research program zembla he told his story on Thursday night. “A letter with a bullet in it, in a while.”
In recent months there has been a lot of resistance from local residents of De Lier (Westland) who find the residential park too massive and fear for their safety. Previously, this resistance was also expressed in arson and threat van Fransen, who sells his company to the Tradiro employment agency to make the residential park possible for migrant workers.
The first incident began with the stripping of his greenhouses. “No Migrants” was written big. “This was the first thing about greenhouses when it became known that Poles were coming to live here. Then I got very angry with the neighborhood. You should stay away from other people’s things. They stood in front of Jan Joker. Why don’t I clean it? Then they laugh to death, I think.

It does not stop at soiling. A few moments later, several fires are also started around his house in De Lier. “You can still see the tracks here, because everything is still there,” he says in the program, pointing to the hit near his home. ,, It became hot, even the tree was on fire. The flames went so high that my house was almost taken and all the windows were shattered ”.
Things go from bad to worse while the gardener stays at his home. “I was too afraid to open the door. Then I was left with an iron pipe in my bedroom. Then I thought: it’s actually getting a little too crazy. “

“After it all went even worse,” continues the cashier. “Last time there was a bullet letter. It came for a while. A letter with a bullet in it. Then I called the police right away and told him how it was. He was sitting.” To date, the police have not yet been able to locate the perpetrators.
Wake up very early
The unrest surrounding the housing of labor migrants still keeps the horticulturist busy today. “Yes, he was exciting. Sleep less easily. Wake up very early. Gradually they have to make a decision with the municipality. Another year like this … Then it will be more and more difficult ”.
A week ago, Westland City Council informed the program that the opposition committee had decided on the plan. Local residents have their own way: no construction is allowed at the moment.
Of course there are conversations going on, because he has to get to college and a decision has to be made about it
Westland Council does not want to give any further explanation yet, because it has to ‘go to college first’, so there is no official answer yet. “Obviously there are talks going on, because it has to get to the council and a decision has to be made about it,” a spokesperson said. “But that doesn’t mean there is an official municipal position.”
The municipality of Westland therefore no longer accepts migrants for work, so they are forced to continue living in The Hague and other cities. ‘With too many people in too small spaces,’ concludes Zembla.
