The famous songwriting partnership, Lennon-McCartney, has re-emerged, albeit through a new generation. Primrose Hill, a single co-written by James McCartney, son of Paul McCartney, and Sean Ono Lennon, continues the Beatles’ musical legacy. The acoustic ballad features a gentle backbeat and soul-stirring guitar solo.

According to James McCartney, the inspiration for Primrose Hill came from a childhood vision he had in Scotland. Reflecting on that memorable day, he stated, “I had a vision as a child in Scotland, on what was a lovely summers day. Letting go, I saw my true love and saviour in my mind’s eye. Primrose Hill is about getting the ball rolling with me & finding this person.”

Promoting his son’s new release, Paul McCartney took to social media to express his support and sent “lots of love” to Ono Lennon.

James McCartney, born to Paul and Linda McCartney in 1977, has steadily built his own musical career. Releasing two solo albums in 2013 and 2016, he has now set off on an exciting journey of sharing his music. Primrose Hill follows the success of his earlier single earlier this year, Beautiful. Over the years, James has collaborated and played with his father, featuring on the critically acclaimed Flaming Pie album from 1997.

While acknowledging the challenge of living up to the Beatles’ legacy, James expressed his desire to earn his own success and build his unique artistic path. Reflecting on the difficulty his father faced even with his band Wings, James explained, “Even Dad found it hard living up to the Beatles. I started out playing under an alias because I wanted to start quietly. I had to serve my time as a musician and wait until I had a good body of songs and for a time when both myself and my music were ready. I don’t want to sit around. I want to earn my own living.”

Sean Ono Lennon, known for his musical contributions alongside his mother Yoko Ono, has earned his own musical recognition. Starting with his album Into the Sun in 1998, backed by the alt-rock band Cibo Matto and with special appearances by Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey, Sean has continued to collaborate with diverse artists including Albert Hammond Jr, Soulfly, Mark Ronson, and Jurassic 5. He has also ventured into film scoring and released his own solo work.

Meanwhile, interest in the Beatles remains strong. After the release of what was believed to be their final new song, “Now & Then,” which reached the top of the UK charts in November, and the three-part Peter Jackson-directed documentary Get Back, Disney+ has announced the reissue of the 1970 film Let It Be. Michael Lindsay Hogg’s Let It Be documented the album’s creation, and the previously unused footage from the shoot has been curated by Peter Jackson for the upcoming documentary series.

Elated by this restoration, Peter Jackson said, “I’m absolutely thrilled that… Let It Be has been restored and is finally being rereleased after being unavailable for decades. I’ve always thought that Let It Be is needed to complete the Get Back story.”

Fans of the Beatles can now bid on the distinctive open-top bus that Paul McCartney and Wings used during their European tour in 1972. McCartney justified this unique touring experience by stating, “If we’re gonna be in Europe in the summer going to places like the south of France, it’s just silly to be in some little box all day gasping for air. So we came up with this idea to have an open deck, upper deck kind of thing. We’ve got some mattresses up there so we can just cruise along, fantastic, it’s great, just lie around and get the sun.” Fully restored and in perfect working order, this double-decker, featuring a Yellow Submarine-themed design, is estimated to fetch up to £200,000 at auction on 22 April.
