Paul McCartney finally responds to Beatles end speculation: ‘That was our Johnny’ | gossip

entertainment">“I did not fuel that rift. That was our Johnny,” says the 79-year-old. “This was my band, this was my job, this was my life, so I wanted to move on.” Lennon thought otherwise, according to McCartney. “John wanted to build a new life with Yoko. John always wanted to distance himself a little more from society. He was raised by his aunt Mimi who was quite overbearing, so he always felt the need to break free.” The musician seems to indicate that he does not hold Yoko Ono responsible for Lennon’s choices.

entertainment">McCartney calls the end of the Beatles the most difficult period of his life, mainly because the media often speculated that he was the one behind the end of the Beatles. “I had to live with that because that was how people saw it. All I could say was that it wasn’t.”

entertainment">In the interview, the Beatle also says that a play recently surfaced that he wrote with Lennon. “I’ve been telling people for years that John and I wrote a play. It’s a pretty funny piece called Pilchard, and it’s about the Messiah.” It is not clear from the now published part of the interview whether there are concrete plans for the piece.
