Patrick van Aanholt is determined to win trophies at PSV. The left wing defender returned to Eindhoven in January this year and saw a wish come true.

Van Aanholt went through the PSV youth academy between 2005 and 2007, after which he moved to Chelsea. When he was no longer needed at Galatasaray last winter, he aimed for a return to the Netherlands. “I wanted to go back a few times, but each time the whole package was not right. Either it was too expensive, or no one was needed. This was the ultimate opportunity and I think God planned it this way for me. I believe there I believe that everything has a reason,” Van Aanholt notes Eindhovens Dagblad.
The Dutch national team is not something that 33-year-old Van Aanholt has been thinking about since his return to PSV. “If I am still called up, I can think about it. We are now facing important things with PSV, including Champions League football. After a European Championship or World Cup, that is the most important series of matches you can play in,” he says. “Taking this step again with PSV is a dream for me. The last time I was in the Champions League was in 2010, you can imagine.”

Last season Van Aanholt already won the KNVB Cup with PSV, at the start of this season he won the Johan Cruijff Shield. “The trainer has made us so fit that we can play our system, but we can and must do better. If we can do that and we can keep the focus on every match, then yes, I would like to be able to hold that bowl in my hands.”
