Cristiano Ronaldo equals Klose’s record

The Portuguese star rose to the height of Miroslav Klose as the all-time top scorer in major international tournaments.

Cristiano Ronaldo has written another page in football history after equaling German legend Miroslav Klose’s record for goals in major tournaments (World Cups and Euro combined).

The Juventus star showed the way forward for his Seleçao by opening the scoring in the clash against Portugal. The achievement was his 19th in major tournaments and no player can boast of it. Unfortunately, this accomplishment was not followed by a positive result for the band at Fernando Santos. The reigning European champions lost 4-2 to Mannschaft.

Against Germany, CR7 was in a hurry as he found the net in the 15th minute by converting a service from Diogo Jota. The Liverpool player showed altruism on this action by putting the five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or into orbit, who then only had to propel the leather to the bottom of the cage.

Scorer at every major tournament since 2004

Ronaldo, who is one of the greatest players of all time, opened his counter against Greece at Euro 2004, before also finding the target against the Netherlands during this same edition of the Euro.

He also scored against Iran in the 2006 World Cup, as well as against the Czech Republic in the Euro that followed two years later. The 2010 World Cup also saw only one goal from him, in the 7-0 festival against North Korea, but Euro 2012 saw Ronaldo score a brace against the Netherlands before finding the flaw in the face of the Czechs.

He found the net against Ghana in the 2014 World Cup and also hit the mark three times on the road to continental glory at Euro 2016 – with two goals against Hungary and another crucial in the semi-final against Wales. Ronaldo also shone at the 2018 World Cup, scoring a superb hat-trick against Spain, before highlighting himself against Morocco.

Finally, the 36-year-old star started Euro 2020 with a double during the Lusitanian success against Hungary (3-0). In all, that makes him 19 pawns at the highest level. And it’s a safe bet that this total will improve further.
