A number of members of the controversial South Korean church community Shincheonji visited Wuhan in January. That is the South Korean counterpart of RIVM, reports Reuters news agency.
The new corona virus was first detected in December in the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan. Most South Korean corona patients are members of the Shincheonji Church, which is considered a cult. More than 3500 people in South Korea have the virus, which is the country most affected after China.
South Korea is testing about 200,000 members of the community. The leader of the cult, Lee Man-hee, will also be tested. According to the South Korean Yonhap news agency he is quarantined in his house near Seoul.
In full, the name of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus is the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testament. The Christian movement was founded in 1984 by Lee Man-hee. The 88-year-old religious leader claims that he is a prophet who prepares his followers for the end of time.
