Passenger (83) from Westerdam did not have coronavirus

The elderly American, after leaving the cruise ship, which also had dozens of Dutchmen on board, was initially tested positive. That happened in Malaysia and led to a lot of unrest. Passengers and crew members who were still in Cambodia had to be checked.

“I have been confirmed that all passengers have been tested for the corona virus and that all results have returned negative,” a CDC spokesperson told USA Today. “It is also about the person who was tested positive in the first instance.” The 83-year-old woman was still in a hospital on Friday.

Refused

The Westerdam was denied by several Asian countries because of the unrest about the corona virus, although no infections were reported on board. The ship was eventually allowed to dock in Cambodia and many passengers had already traveled further when it turned out that the 83-year-old woman would be infected anyway.

Passengers react angrily to the news that the woman apparently did not have the virus. A man from Michigan says that ‘hundreds of innocent passengers’ have been duped, for example because they were unable to fly home after leaving the ship.

A woman from Wisconsin tells the daily about the “enormous stress” and financial damage that the uncertainty brought with it. For example, her and her husband’s plane tickets were canceled without reason when they wanted to return to the US from Cambodia.

It would have cost the couple more than 5000 dollars (more than 4600 euros) to come home. There the local health service contacted them and they went home for two weeks in quarantine. Their adult children left food in the garage and her husband couldn’t go to work.
