Fight against strike breakers: Pasquale Aleardi (center) as tunnel worker Tommaso in Urs Egger’s two-part SRF historical drama “Gotthard” from 2016.
The Zurich Pasquale Aleardi (49) is one of the most internationally successful Swiss actors – also thanks to his enormous versatility. Most recently he was seen as a gay sailor Costa in the theatrical version of “I’ve never been to New York” and nominated for the German Film Award. As of today, he is investigating as Commissioner Dupin in the bestselling films by Jean-Luc Bannalec (54) in Brittany (seven episodes, Tuesdays, SRF 1, 8:05 p.m.). “A passionate and complex character with many quirks,” enthuses Aleardi to BLICK.

The films produced by ARD have already been sold in 40 countries. «I am particularly pleased that Dupin likes the French so much. I never thought that public television there would buy works in which Swiss and Germans play French in France. With the last episode, we achieved a record quota. If someone had told me that five years ago, I would have shown him the bird. » The area where the film was shot recorded a tourist increase of around 50 percent after the broadcast. “Everyone wants to drink coffee in Dupin’s favorite place. And there is even a Dupin steak on the menu. »

“I didn’t want to play one like that”
All the more astonishing that Aleardi couldn’t warm up properly for this figure at first. «Dupin seemed to me like the stubborn and immobile version of Hercule Poirot. I didn’t want to play one like that. I then suggested more movement and action at the casting and was glad that it was well received. » In contrast to the books, Dupin has a fish allergy in the films and is the classic city dweller who ends up in the country – similar to Aleardi, who with his wife Petra Auer (34) – the Graubünden woman is also an actress – and the two boys Leonardo ( 4) and Armando (2) lives in Berlin. “However, I was only at home for three months last year and was otherwise always on the road for work.” When it comes to the family. “As long as the children don’t have to go to school, we are very agile.”

Family planning not completed
Incidentally, the family planning has not yet been completed. “We wouldn’t say no to another child. At the moment, however, this is not an issue for the married couple since 2016. “At the moment we are extremely busy with our two young men,” says Aleardi with a smile.
