He had been beating around the bush for a while. 3rd in the Kentucky Derby (Gr.1), 2nd in the Belmont Stakes (Gr.1) and recently disqualified after victory in the Haskell Stakes (Gr.1) for having been the cause of the downfall of Midnight Bourbon (Tiznow), Red Hot Charlie (Oxbow), coached by Doug O’Neill, finally finds his day in the Pennsylvania Derby (Gr.1). Ridden, as on each of his outings, by Flavien Prat, Red Hot Charlie takes the train on his own. Gradually hardening the pace, he disgusted his opponents one by one and crossed the finish line with more than two lengths ahead of Midnight Bourbon, the only one able to follow him in the final phase.
