A number of members of student association Vindicat did not adhere to the corona measures during a ride in a party bus, chairman Wessel Griezen confirms Thursday in conversation with regional media. Images show how the occupants do not wear a mouth mask, keep their distance, dance and scream.
The party bus organization refuses to talk to RTV North in The Dagblad van het Noorden confirm that they are members of Vindicat. Spokesman Deon Sonnemans only acknowledges that during a trip with students “corona rules have not been observed”.
Normally, health statements would be requested and occupants should wear face masks. Sonnemans suspects that this is “an isolated incident”.
RTV North writes that some members used laughing gas on the bus. The video of the dancing people in the party bus is also in the possession of the editors of NU.nl. The informant of the video tells the regional media about the rides in the party bus that “it has been like this for months”.
Vindicat condemns behavior: ‘We disapprove’
Vindicat chairman Griezen condemns the behavior of “some members of his association”. According to him, it is still being investigated whether all persons on the bus are members of Vindicat, or whether other student associations are also involved. Griezen emphasizes that the ride with the party bus was not organized by the student association itself.
There would already have been contact between Vindicat and the security region, writes RTV North. Griezen would also like to speak to the members concerned as soon as possible. “We strongly disapprove of this behavior.”
The Groningen mayor Koen Schuiling responds to the images in conversation with the broadcaster. “I express my concern and remind the young people in question of their responsibility. We must await the results of the study.”
According to the mayor’s spokesman, this is a “stupid action”, which probably did not originate from the association. “Just as the mayor does not have all residents on a string, so does the Senate of Vindicat, which does not have all members on a string.”
Contact is sought with the bus company from Friesland and Vindicat itself. The spokesperson does not want to anticipate possible sanctions.
