Bart Chabot’s parents (65) rejected his friendship with Jules Deelder and Herman Brood. The poet tells this in an interview with de Volkskrant.
“The first thing my dad said to me when we saw each other again was,” Are you dealing with those little holes? That filthy bunch of criminals? “” Chabot said. “For my parents, it was a total disgrace. People who used drugs and shit at the world: they hated that to the depths of their knowledge.”
Chabot met singer Brood and poet Deelder when he studied and became friends with them. They encouraged him to become a poet. “Herman is the one who literally kicked me on stage at a Wild Romance concert (Brood’s band, ed.).”
Chabot had a very difficult relationship with his parents because they emotionally and physically abused him. On de Volkskrant tells Chabot that he definitively broke contact with his parents when they rejected his friendship with Deelder and Brood.
