The Sûreté du Québec has confirmed that the man in his thirties found in critical condition this morning on Saturday, August 22 at Parc de la Commune, in Châteauguay, succumbed to his injuries.
Police are still at the scene as of this writing at 5:50 PM. The area of the Parc de la Commune is still closed.
The SQ spokesperson indicates that the investigation is continuing. He was not in a position to give more details, in particular whether the victim was known to the police. No arrests have been made in this case so far.
The Chateauguay police officers were called around 8 a.m. this morning by residents of the area who said they heard gunshots. Police found the victim in critical condition in the park. The thirty-something was transported to the hospital where he died.
The municipal police transferred the investigation to the personal crimes department of the Sûreté du Québec.
