Pistoia, 3 December 2023 – Moments of fear were experienced today, 3 December, due to a serious accident that occurred to a paragliding enthusiast. The man, 49 years old from Sesto Fiorentino (Florence), fell in the woods of Municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese near via San Giusto, between the towns of Casalguidi and Montevettolini.
The emergency services were immediately alerted. The firefighters of the Pistoia command went to the scene, together with the 118 health personnel. The personnel of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Tuscany also intervened at the site of the accident.
The man had a very violent impact with the ground, requiring emergency transport to hospital. 118 sent a Misericordia ambulance to the scene. The intervention of the Pegaso air ambulance was necessary on site to recover the injured man. The person was then urgently transported to the Careggi hospital in Florence.
According to what was later reconstructed by the Tuscany Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service, the 49-year-old had problems with his paraglider shortly after take-off and fell, hitting some plants.
