The Festival ‘Luna de Cortos’ faces this VIII edition, which is held the first week of August in the town of Irrigation of the Vega, with great enthusiasm. The contest has just closed the deadline for receiving the films in competition with more than 450 works in its different categories, waiting to also count those of the invited city: Berlin, which keeps the term open. A not inconsiderable figure given the health situation, which has hampered countless filming processes. The organization and the selection committee praise the efforts of all the short filmmakers, who despite difficult circumstances, have adapted, offering proposals of a great creative and technical level, allowing cinema, in its shorter version, to remain very much alive.
Regarding the novelties offered by this festival for this new edition, it should be noted that this year ‘Luna de Cortos’ will feature the actress Eulàlia Ramon as godmother. An interpreting professional with an extensive career behind her, which made her worthy of the Honor Award of the festival, last 2018. Precisely, the actress and soon-to-be director, since this year she will direct her first film, will star in a promotional video for the short film contest and the municipality of Riego de la Vega in mid-May.
Another novelty of this edition is the launch of the ‘Smart Woman’ category, which has had a good reception of works in its debut. This section will also be named after the writer Elena Santiago from León. The initiative comes from the hand of the organization, the D-spiert Association @, and the festival management, in tribute to the writer, who passed away last year.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the poster for this VIII edition is the work of the photographer Richard Le Manz. The artist has explained the concept of this work, alluding to the fact that we need to inhabit «other times, shake off this feeling of suffocation, disconnect that accelerated relationship with time. The work, like the cinema, goes through this reflection. It brings us closer to numerous conceptual universes amalgamated by time, by our reflections, dreams, concerns and personal or collective longings ».
