The explosion occurred in the city of Hangu in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Reuters writes that at least five people have died.

According to local media, there are two suicide attacks that happened at the same time in the city. An explosion is said to have gone off at a police station and another at the mosque right next door, according to a police officer.

Geo News reports that the roof of a mosque has collapsed. Rescue workers are working to dig out people from the building blocks.

Earlier on Friday, at least 52 people were killed and more than 50 people were injured after an explosion at another mosque in the province of Balochistan in southern Pakistan.

This was reported by local health authorities to the Reuters news agency.

A police spokesperson tells Reuters that it is a suicide attack. The Ministry of the Interior in Pakistan also claims that the attack bears the hallmarks of terrorism.

The explosion went off at a gathering in the mosque. According to Reuters, more than 30 people are said to be stuck in the ruins.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Reuters writes that the province has been hit by several Islamist attacks in the past.
