According to the Mayor of Karachi, none of the 107 inmates survived. Pakistan International Airlines’ Airbus A320 is said to have just landed at Karachi airport. According to PIA chief Arshad Malik, the pilot reported to the tower technical problems of the machine.

Eyewitnesses report that the accident machine tried two or three times to land at Jinnah International Airport. A local resident said, according to the AP news agency, that he had seen the plane circle at least three times before it plunged into the residential area.

After a temporary suspension of flights due to the corona pandemic, flight operations in Pakistan only resumed a few days ago. Because of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr festival at the end of Ramadan, many people are currently traveling to their hometowns in the country.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed condolences to the victims and families. On Twitter, he wrote: “Shocked and saddened by the PIA crash.”
