(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Mi-sook Seo = Chairman Lee’s Paik Il-jae was strictly followed at the Jingwansa Temple Hamwoldang in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul on the 1st of the 100th day after the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee passed away.

Paik Il-jae is a Buddhist ritual in which the deceased is sacrificed on the 100th day of his death.

The bereaved family had previously spent 49 years in Chairman Lee Kun-hee here at Jingwansa Temple. Jingwansa Temple, famous for its’Thousand Years’ Temple, is a temple belonging to the Jogye Order, a Buddhist temple.

On this day, Paik Il-jae was the eldest son of Chairman Lee Kun-hee, Samsung Electronics.[005930] As Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong was imprisoned for two years and six months in prison two weeks ago for the Gukjeong Nongdan Trial, the proceedings were made simple with only the survivors who remained without Lee.

With the extension of 2.5 steps in social distancing, Lee’s wife, Hong Ra-hee, former director of Leeum Museum of Art, and two daughters, Lee Bu-jin, Hotel Shilla[008770] The president and Lee Seo-hyun, chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation, and others attended.

Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s vacant position was replaced by Lee’s son and the grandson of Chairman Lee Kun-hee.

At the time of the 49th anniversary, 12 people, including Vice Chairman Lee and Chairman Lee’s grandchildren, attended, but it seems that the number of attendance was minimized by following the quarantine guidelines prohibiting meetings with more than 5 people on this day.

Chairman Lee Kun-hee’s younger brother, Shinsegae Group Chairman Lee Myung-hee, and his nephew Lee Jae-hyun, CJ Chairman, also did not come.

The bereaved family arrived at Jingwansa Temple at around 9:45 am that day, divided into three cars.

Hong Ra-hee, former director of Leeum Art, wore a white mourning dress, while other bereaved families wore masks in black suits.

After getting out of the car, former manager Hong greeted the monk who was preparing 100 materials by holding hands.

Paik Il-jae proceeded privately, blocking access from outsiders for about two hours from 10 am on the day.

The bereaved family prayed for the deceased in a quiet and solemn atmosphere. With this day, all the funeral procedures for Chairman Lee were finished.

Although Ms. Hong Ra-hee was known for her religion as Won Buddhism, she also exchanged with Buddhist figures and carried out all the funeral procedures of President Lee Kun-hee in a Buddhist style.

Chairman Lee Kun-hee died at the Samsung Medical Center after falling down at his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu due to an acute myocardial infarction in May 2014, and died on October 25 last year at the age of 78.
