Ban on accommodation: These are the risk areas in Germany

Whether NRW, Lower Saxony, Bavaria, Berlin – in several federal states, cities and districts are now considered risk areas. Due to the prohibition of accommodation, this affects the vacation in the autumn holidays. An overview.

For a long time the autumn vacation in Germany was considered a safe bet. But since more and more districts and cities have been declared risk areas and federal states have been banning holidaymakers from these Corona hotspots, this option is also disappearing for many.

Almost every day, more and more districts and urban districts are classified as risk areas. In some federal states, the autumn holidays have already started, for example in Berlin, Bremen, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

In these federal states, there is now at least one corona hotspot. If you come from these regions, you have to consider a few things before going on holiday in Germany. Because in most federal states, people from risk areas are only allowed to stay overnight with a negative corona test. Only in Berlin, Bremen, Thuringia and Baden-Württemberg there is currently no accommodation ban.

Ban on accommodation: the right of travelers to cancel

The classification as a risk area affects the residents of the affected regions on their vacation. Because several federal states in Germany have imposed an accommodation ban for travelers from Corona hotspots. Often only people who can show a negative corona test result that is no more than 48 hours old are allowed to stay overnight. Only in Berlin, Bremen, Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia is there currently no such regulation. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, travelers from risk areas must be in quarantine even with a negative corona test.

According to travel lawyer Paul Degott, anyone who can no longer go on vacation as planned due to an accommodation ban has the right to get the money back for the hotel room or other accommodation they have booked. However, this only applies if the accommodation providers can no longer accept the guest due to the new regulation. If you no longer want to travel, for example because you don’t want to have a corona test, you can not count on a free cancellation – unless the accommodation is accommodating.

Despite some great criticism of the ban on accommodation, the decision at the Prime Minister’s Conference on Wednesday was not overturned. Instead, the regulation should apply until November 8th.

Hamburg and Berlin are risk areas for Switzerland

With a seven-day incidence of 30.5 (as of October 15), Hamburg is currently not yet a risk area. Nevertheless, there are currently travel restrictions for Hamburgers: In Switzerland, the Hanseatic city has been a risk area since October 12 – together with Berlin. The reason: The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) puts countries or regions on the quarantine list that have more than 60 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within two weeks.
