. Vehicle breakdown and overcrowded train: The Breisgau S-Bahn started on Monday morning with problems in the second week after the end of the summer vacation. The disturbance occurred in the morning just at the time when, in addition to many commuters, students also used local transport, and that significantly more than at the beginning of the first week of school, when not all grades had started with a full timetable.
The disturbance began in the Black Forest in the morning. An electric multiple unit coming from Neustadt could not, as planned, be coupled to another multiple unit in Titisee due to a technical fault. So only one railcar drove to Freiburg and from there to Breisach. It was a small, three-unit motorcar of the Coradia Continental type, as it has been in use with a four-unit version since the rail line was electrified in mid-December. This little train turned in Breisach punctually at 7.19 a.m. for its return journey to Freiburg. His 164 seats were no longer enough in Breisach. In Gottenheim, where people changing from Endingen wanted to get on line S 12, then nothing worked. The people were huddled together in the train, some had to stay outside on the platform, as well as at the next stop in Hugstetten. Passengers were shocked that there was no way of even halfway keeping the distances between people due to the corona pandemic. “It is completely unacceptable that the railway can see such a situation”, shared a BZ reader. On request, the railway stated that there was no vehicle available on the way to expand the train capacity. It is regretted that these problems arose for the passengers. Last week, the Ministry of Transport, in consultation with the railways, announced that additional buses should be used in school traffic to heavily used rail connections. In the district, this only applies to a connection from Lffingen to Neustadt.
