Overcoming Body Pressure: Embracing Confidence on the Beach and Beyond

“For those of you who avoid the beach because you don’t feel good in a bikini,” writes Sandra Lyng (36) in a candid post on Instagram.

Summer arrived with a bang and Norway has already experienced a heat wave by Norwegian standards, even though we are only in June. Many have taken their first dip, while others are holding out a little longer – despite the fact that the summer heat is here.

The moment that changed everything

Many are reluctant to jump into their bikinis and splash around on the beach. Sandra Lyng thinks it has a lot to do with the body pressure we get through social media.

Now she is dealing with the expectations of how we should look, and addresses everyone who does not feel comfortable being on the beach in a bikini.

Was himself affected by the body pressure

She strongly opposes retouching, which we have all been exposed to in magazines and TV commercials throughout. With the advent of social media, there were no regulations around the use of retouched images either. She believes that this has damaged many people’s self-image and has caused unnecessary body pressure in society.

She herself was affected by what she saw, comparing herself to the women she saw in pictures with chalky white teeth, smooth skin and narrow waists.

– Not right for me

I 2022 ble the Marketing Act changed. Retouched advertising must be labeled to counteract body pressure – especially among children and young people.

The 36-year-old is nevertheless concerned about the influence social media and photo retouching have on young people. She herself has had her concerns about her appearance, but is today in a place where she chooses to look at what is often retouched away – as something beautiful that tells a story about the person who wears it.

– It is sad that we feel at all that we have to change our appearance before we can share it with the world. Then there is something wrong with the world, if you ask me. Or social media, Sandra then said KK interviewed her in 2022.

“Now I know that wrinkles are only signs that you have smiled and laughed, stretch marks or tiger stripes show that you have grown, and yes maybe made little people! Cellulites are dimples only elsewhere than on the cheeks, and pimples mean that you are… simply human. But perhaps best of all, I’ve learned to be happy about it,” she writes to cheers in the comments section.

– Everything was “fake”

“Completely agree, this message is so important to get across!”, writes one.

“So much more beautiful naturally!” writes another, and gets support from a bunch of committed users.

In the post, the artist and the influencer have shared two versions of the same image – one retouched and one natural.

The body has endured a lot

The message to the mother of young children is simple; She wants to show that life is much more than appearance and inspire to create a life that feels good to live by being happy with who you are.

“For those of you who avoid the beach because you don’t feel good enough in a bikini. Or wear black clothes when it’s hot to look “slim”. Or for those of you who don’t dare to dance, because you’re afraid of looking weird, you know,” she writes.

Taken at face value: – Unnecessary

The 36-year-old has been in a relationship with Lasse Joachim Langerud since 2016, and in 2018 they became parents of a boy.

She is proud that her body has given birth to a child, it has been sick for two years with the kissing bug and covid, but still she is in a place today where she feels she has a strong body that can run, feel, smile and play.

“My body is MAGIC and so is yours (hope you know that, dear). And one more thing about “Its getting old” – literally – feeling like we’re not as good or nice as we get older,” she concludes.
