To increase the share of chips produced in Italy, the government is also in talks with STMicroelectronics, MEMC Electronic Materials (in the hands of Taiwanese GlobalWafers) and the Israeli Tower Semiconductor – which according to the recent takeover offer it will soon fall into Intel’s perimeter.

Negotiations with Intel are complex because the US group has submitted very tough demands, “a government source involved in the talks told Reuters. The government is, however, ready to close the deal by taking advantage of the new rules on financing companies engaged in semiconductor production, as part of the European Chips Act.
