Over 200,000 people play The Finals on Steam » Vortex

During The Game Awards, developers from the Embark studio released their shooter The Finals. The event, which caught the eye during the beta test, offers fast-paced gameplay, a huge amount of destruction and satisfying gameplay, which could in the finals lead to the title establishing itself among the popular shooters of today and expanding the ranks of regulars such as Apex: Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty or Valorant. Everything seemed to be on the right track, but after the release, the wheels got a little stuck, and although the title is currently played by over 200 thousand players on Steam, The Finals is still not scoring in the reviews.

If you drill down to the game’s Steam page, you’ll see the word rating is “mixed” out of a total of nearly 18,000 reviews, of which only 69 percent are positive. Why, you ask, when the game was hyped and uncritically talked about as this year’s next big thing? Players will feel that the developers have slowed down the movement, something that was highly praised during the tests and in critical reviews they talk about a very strange feeling, as if the character – regardless of the chosen class or build – is moving in honey. Of course, this is an exaggeration, because the game is still very fast, but not as much as in the beta, and it is very annoying to players.

However, the fact is that, at least according to the claims of the developers on Discord (trans PCGamesN), that there was no movement speed adjustment. “Over the past months, we’ve made minor changes to animations, sound, and settings, so a combination of these things may seem like the movement has slowed down,” the developers wrote. Another differentiating factor is the FOV, which is now set to 71 degrees by default, which can also affect the feeling of speed. Therefore, it should be enough to increase the value a little and the game should immediately resemble itself a little more from the beta test. However, the developers have confirmed that they will deal with this problem and will bring an update in the coming days that should rebalance some of the game’s elements.

But it’s not just movement at the moment, players are very specifically pointing out, for example, that the heavy fighter class is too strong, which should have already been pointed out during testing. The developers, on the other hand, remind us that this is a live service game, a title that should be constantly developed, changed and reshaped, so they will adjust some things only after the feedback of a sufficient number of players. The point is to give players a game they like and enjoy playing, not a product that is supposed to let them down from a good experience. So we’ll see how everything develops, in fairness we have to admit that The Finals is just at the beginning and we have no doubt that the developers, not only with experience in the development of Battlefield, know what they are doing. We will no doubt take a look at the game itself over the course of the next week.
