Since Saturday there has been a lot of fuss about the transfer of Cian Uijtdebroeks from BORA-hansgrohe to Jumbo-Visma. The Dutch formation presented the Belgian climber as its latest addition, but BORA-hansgrohe then announced that Uijtdebroeks is still under contract with the German formation until December 31, 2024. Now Cédric Vasseur, the team boss of Cofidis, is also joining the debates.

What exactly is the situation now?
On Saturday afternoon, Jumbo-Visma made the surprising announcement that Cian Uijtdebroeks will compete for the Dutch team from 2024. The 20-year-old rider had (or has) a continuous contract with his current employer BORA-hansgrohe. However, after two seasons, Uijtdebroeks is looking elsewhere and has signed a contract with Jumbo-Visma until the end of 2027.
Or not? BORA-hansgrohe was quick to respond. The team denies the transfer and announced in a statement that Uijtdebroeks will remain part of the team next season. “Cian is and will remain a member of BORA-hansgrohe in the next season. He is contractually bound to us until December 31, 2024,” says BORA-hansgrohe.
Cian Uijtdebroeks’ management indicates that his contract with BORA-hansgrohe has indeed been terminated. In addition, they indicate that legal procedures have been initiated and that the UCI has also been informed of the situation. Uijtdebroeks has also shared his management’s response on his social media. “Of course Cian is enthusiastic and looks forward to his collaboration with Visma | Lease a Bike,” it sounds.
