Over 200 tree falls and 24 floods at dawn

This Monday morning, Civil Protection recorded 315 occurrences due to bad weather, most of which fell from trees. There are several streets cut off in Porto due to the fall of a scaffold.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, Commander Carlos Pereira, of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), said that until 8 am there were registered 315 occurrences, 203 of which were tree falls and 24 floods, due to wind and heavy rain.

“We also had some occurrences related to small floods. The districts most affected by bad weather were those of Viseu with 54 tree falls and Port with 53 “, he said, stressing that until 8 am the occurrences did not cause victims or major material damages.

Cut streets in Porto

At the Port, according to information available on the City Council’s website, road traffic is cut off, from about 6.40 am, from Campo Lindo to Praça Nove de Abril due to the fall from a scaffold on Rua de Luz Soriano.

“There are no victims to register, only material damage in some dwellings“, says the autarchy.” The fall of the large structure prevents, in the next few hours, automobile circulation along these arteries “, he explains.

Sources of the District Commands of Relief Operations (CDOS) of the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra, Castelo Branco and Braga, contacted by Lusa, recorded until about 7 am dozens of occurrences related mainly to falls of trees, but also due to falling structures and small floods.

Those districts were under orange notice from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) because of the forecast of heavy and persistent rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts and strong wind from the west quadrant, with gusts up to 85 kilometers per hour, being 120 kilometers per hour (km / hour) in the highlands.

These districts have, however, passed a yellow warning only for the forecast of strong wind with gusts up to 85 km / h, gradually decreasing to 70 km / h, and from 110 km / h in the highlands.

This yellow warning will be in effect until 6 pm on Monday.
