Over 10,000 corona infections in Norway

This is an increase of 40 new in the last 24 hours.

The increase is somewhat smaller than it has been in recent days. On Sunday, the number of infections increased by 57 new cases. The same increase was registered on Saturday, and since Friday the increase has been 182 cases.

The figures are taken from the Communicable Diseases Notification System (MSIS).

The number could have been higher

A total of 10,005 Norwegians tested positive for the coronavirus. About 95 percent are healthy, according to FHI.

If the measures introduced in March had not been forthcoming, the number of infections would have been so high already in April or May, says chief physician Preben Aavitsland at the National Institute of Public Health to VG.

– The number is large, but it is an achievement of the population, companies, municipalities and the health service that the number is not 20-30 times higher now, he says.

He points out that the real number of infected is probably 40,000.

– Many have had such a mild illness that they have not known that it is this illness they have had, Aavitsland tells the newspaper.

NIPH: No signs of national flare-up

In the last three weeks, the number of reported cases in Norway has increased, but so has the test activity. The proportion of positives among those tested has increased to 0.88 per cent, shows the risk report from NIPH which was presented on Friday.

Young adults and adults under the age of 50 have accounted for about two-thirds of cases in the last three weeks.

– We believe that the development so far does not indicate a national flare-up. Then we would have expected a higher proportion of positive samples, and many more cases would have been discovered with the sharp increase in testing that has been last week, the report states.

A total of eight people were hospitalized on Friday with a detected coronavirus and one of them is on a respirator, according to figures from the Norwegian Directorate of Health. The figures will not be updated this weekend.

NIPH has registered 261 coronary-related deaths in this country.
