Over 1000 corpses left the heat in Spain and Portugal – EU

Extreme heat in Spain and Portugal has killed more than 1,000 people and fires have prompted mass evacuations.

Meteorologists warn that the rise in temperatures in southern Europe continues.

Half of the EU territory is threatened by drought

More than 16,000 have already left their homes in France because of the devastating forest fires in the southwestern parts of the country, BTV reported.

Experts warn that the region is facing a “temperature apocalypse”. The mercury is expected to rise above 40 degrees.

Fires are growing in Spain. Over 3,000 people were evacuated from the Malaga area. In Catalonia, the flames reached populated areas.

The record heat also caused fires in Greece, Croatia and Portugal. The European Commission said it was mobilizing more planes to help fight the flames.
