A family in Canóvanas denounced a pattern of harassment and racist bullying on the part of its neighbor, in a community to which they moved just eight months ago.
The situation boomed after the mother of three girls reported the events on social media, at a time when the fight against racism has intensified after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the hands of the police.
In one of the photos you can see a drawing in the water cistern of a black doll with the words “Fo, they suck”, while other images of black dolls are seen hanging on the balcony.
“Outrageous! Just moved and my neighbor welcomes us with this show of contempt and racism. Apparently it bothers her that my husband and daughter are black. It is sad to see that in the 21st century these things still happen,” Chanely Cortés wrote in a publication. from Facebook which has been shared more than 5,000 times.
In an interview with NotiUno 360, Luis Ramírez, Cortés’ husband, affirmed that the neighbor also shouts insults at them and at their daughters.
“I feel outraged. I do not know what it is like to go out in full confidence to my balcony to enjoy my property without her yelling expletives like ‘dirty’, ‘fo, stink’, etc. And not only with me, but also with my daughter, who is strong (the situation), “Ramírez said in an interview with the station.
The man said that problems with his neighbor began since they moved last October, when the woman apparently falsely accused them of assaulting her with stones and eggs. He also said that the woman places several radios at full volume “24 hours a day” in the direction of her residence, so they cannot rest.
The couple stressed that the most difficult thing has been explaining to their younger daughters and teenagers why women act in this way “because they are of a different color.” “It is not fair,” said Cortés.
Cortés and Ramírez have gone to court to request a cessation and desist.
