JAKARTA (Independensi.com) – Five cases of Japanesse encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in Kulonprogo must be declared as an outbreak (extraordinary event) by the Ministry of Health. This was stated by the former Minister of Health, Siti Fadilah Supari, to the press, Saturday (18/11).

“So that the government can seriously handle these 5 cases, carry out surveillance to see if it is true that the 5 cases are the result of the spread of the Aides Aegepti mosquito which contains Wolbachia,” explained the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Healthy Movement for the Indonesian People (Gesuri).

If it is true that this is due to the spread of the Aides Aegepti mosquito which contains Wolbachia, then according to Siti Fadilah, the government must immediately stop the plan to spread the mosquito because it has the impact of spreading the Japanesse Encephalitis virus.

Siti Fadilah explained that the researchers spread Aides Agepti mosquitoes containing Wolbachia with the aim of suppressing cases of dengue fever. However, it naturally strengthens Culex mosquitoes to become dominant and vicious.

“As a result of weakening the Aedis Agepti mosquito which carries dengue fever, the Culex mosquito became dominant in spreading the Japanesse Encephalitis virus which killed five people in Kulonprogo,” explained Siti Fadilah.

The Chairman of the Advisory Board of the People’s Health Council (DKR) explained
The KLB status must be determined by the Ministry of Health so that it can prevent the spread of mosquitoes which will increase other victims.

“Because the victim’s blood contains the Japanesse Encephalitis virus and it can be transmitted through mosquito bites, so the victim can spread everywhere,” he said.

Extraordinary Status

The status of Extraordinary Events is regulated by the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Health Regulation No. 949/MENKES/SK/VII/2004.

Extraordinary events are described as the occurrence or increase in the incidence of morbidity or death that is epidemiologically significant in an area within a certain period of time.

Criteria regarding Extraordinary Events refer to Director General’s Decree no. 451/91, concerning Guidelines for Investigation and Management of Extraordinary Events. According to these rules, an event is declared extraordinary if there are elements:

The emergence of an infectious disease that previously did not exist or was unknown.

Continuous increase in the incidence of disease/death for 3 consecutive periods according to the type of disease (hour, day, week).

Increase in the incidence of disease/death 2 times or more compared to the previous period (hour, day, week, month, year).

The number of new sufferers in one month shows an increase of 2 times or more when compared to the average monthly figure in the previous year.

5 Victims in Kulonprogo

The Kulon Progo Health Service (Dinkes) reported findings of suspected Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

One of the Suspects is reported to have died.

Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P), Kulon Progo Health Office, Rina Nuryati said that at least 5 JE suspects were found. The five of them are still children

“We found the five since around the end of October 2023,” said Rina when contacted on Tuesday (14/11/2023).

According to him, these 5 suspects were discovered when his party carried out routine surveillance.

The five of them became suspects because they experienced symptoms similar to JE, such as fever and decreased consciousness.

Rina said the 5 suspects immediately received treatment by a pediatrician at the hospital.

Samples from them have also been taken for examination in the laboratory.

“The results have not been released until now, but one of the suspects died,” he said.

Rina admitted that the JE suspect in Kulon Progo was not the first time this had happened.

Last year a number of suspects were also found, but the results from the laboratory stated that they were negative for JE.

He said the JE virus is generally transmitted by Culex mosquitoes.

This disease can attack all age groups, but children are most susceptible and can cause death.

Spread of Wolbachia Mosquitoes

Former Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari warned of the dangers of the spread of the Wolbachia mosquito which is being programmed by the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

“This is called a biological weapon, as is done in several countries. “The spread of mosquitoes has a big impact on national defense and security,” he said.

He explained that mRNA technology can be used to create biological weapons by using mosquitoes as carriers.

“So don’t be too naive to see that new findings continue to be tried out on residents who don’t know about the dangerous possibilities. “Scientists’ thinking is not paranoid, because scientists must be able to analyze further than something that looks normal but has dangerous irregularities,” he said.

Deployment Postponed in Bali

Previously it was reported that the spread of wolbachia mosquito eggs in Denpasar, Bali, had been postponed. In fact, the distribution of mosquito eggs to anticipate dengue fever is planned for today, Monday, November 13 2023.

The Mayor of Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, said that his party had not actually taken steps to carry out the distribution of wolbachia mosquito eggs before receiving a decision from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).

The Denpasar City Government held a meeting regarding wolbachia with the Ministry of Health, a team of experts from UGM and third parties.

“Indeed, many people have demanded that the distribution be postponed first, not ours,” said Jaya Negara, Monday.

He said that the Denpasar City Government would carry out the distribution of wolbachia mosquito eggs if the process was carried out by the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

“If the Ministry of Health carries it out and not a third party, then we will have the courage to carry out the distribution,” he said.

Meanwhile, by postponing the spread, continued Jaya Negara, his party will maximize measures to prevent dengue cases.

Previously it was reported that 4,109 points in Denpasar City, Bali, were targeted as locations for the spread of Wolbachia mosquito eggs. Staff for Disease Prevention and Control at the Denpasar City Health Service, Larassita, said that thousands of points were located in eight villages and sub-districts in Denpasar.

Meanwhile, the locations where mosquito eggs spread are concentrated in Dauh Puri Kelod, Tegal Kertha, Pemecutan Kelod, Pemecutan, Padang Sambian Kelod, Dauh Puri, Tegal Harum and Dauh Puri Kangin.

“There are 4,109 capsules. Each capsule contains approximately 500 mosquito eggs. “Per mosquito release container contains 1 capsule,” said Larassita, Sunday (5/11/2023).

The first stage of distribution will take place on November 13 2023.

The Denpasar City Health Service recorded that during the January-October 2023 period there were 1,309 cases of dengue fever and 4 deaths. According to him, the number of cases continues to decline.

“Starting from the 30th week there has been a decline in cases. “This 30th week starts from July,” he explained.

He said that the decline in cases was also caused by the current dry weather conditions.

“(Efforts to prevent cases) are still the same as before. “Carrying out PSN snapping, monitoring larvae by jumantik and fogging if necessary,” he added.
