Following an amicable termination, the Pizzorno company announces the cessation of operation, by its Moroccan subsidiary Teodem, of the Oum Azza waste treatment and recovery center in the Skhirate-Temara region, as of July 1.

The termination was carried out with the Inter-municipal Cooperation Establishment (ECI) Al Assima and representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, said a press release published by Pizzorno. As such, the company reports “His concerns about the lack of contact by the ECI about the resumption of staff and the continuation of the activity of treatment and recovery of waste”.

The group recalls that the establishment of this recovery center in 2008 enabled the closure of landfills in Rabat (Akreuch), Salé and Aïn Attiq. On a 110 hectare site, with an annual capacity of 850,000 tonnes, the site’s turnover for the year 2019 is 68 million dirhams. According to media sources, the disagreement stems from the inability of the delegatee to find a solution to the problem of leachate (300,000 m3 are currently stored in the six basins of the site). It emits foul smells and a negative impact on groundwater resources, says Econostrum.

On Facebook, the first vice-president of the Council of the commune of Rabat, Lahcen El Omrani, specified that the services of the ECI were working so that the garbage collection was not impacted by this decision.
