A high-explosive bomb exploded last night in front of the entrance to the town hall of Ottana, in the Nuoro area. Serious damage to the facade and some offices. The police forces present on site and the fire brigade are ascertaining whether there is structural damage to the building. The Carabinieri bomb squad have arrived in Ottana and the Prefect of Nuoro Giancarlo Dionisi is on his way.

From an initial inspection by the Carabinieri of the Ottana Company and the Nuoro Investigation Unit, the bomb positioned around one in front of the Ottana Town Hall had been packed with 3-4 kilos of explosives which caused extensive damage to the external part of the building and on the ground floor, shattering glass, doors and furnishings.
The building was deemed fit for use
The building did not appear to have suffered any structural damage and from an initial external examination by the Nuoro provincial command police it was deemed usable, although the load tests on the upper floors of the building, to be certain of its usability, will be carried out on Monday morning.

The City Hall’s surveillance system was in operation when the explosion occurred and investigators have already acquired footage for the investigation. The mayor of the town Franco Saba is receiving the solidarity of colleagues and friends and this morning the Prefect of Nuoro Giancarlo Dionisi also arrived in Ottana and convened the Committee for public order and safety for Monday morning at 10.30.

“What happened is a very serious matter and I expressed my utmost closeness to the first citizen of the country”, prefect Dionisi told ANSA. “On Monday we will take stock of the situation in the public safety committee, but I can say that this is not a hot area: the last bomb attack against an administrator dates back to 2010, so it was a bolt from the blue. Naturally we will do our in-depth investigations both to reach a solution to the case as soon as possible and to understand what is behind this attack in the town.”

“The explosion of a bomb in front of the town hall of Ottana during the night is a cowardly attack on the entire community.” Alessandra Todde, president in pectore of the Sardinia Region, entrusts her reactions to X about her reactions after the attack in the center of Nuoro. “Violence cannot and must not find space in our society and in our communities – she concludes – I express closeness and solidarity to the mayor and all the citizens of Ottana”.
