Disney Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sony Liv have all started shelling out big bucks. Disney Hotstar is at the forefront. Two of their web series have already been released. Two more coming soon. Five are under construction. All starring leading actors.
Sony Liv has completed the construction of one. Two have been approved. Netflix, on the other hand, has completed the first phase of discussions for a web series with a famous director in Malayalam. Amazon Prime is also in the early stages of its first Malayalam web series.
The discovery that Malayalam web series have more viewers in other languages of India and overseas Malayalams led the OTT people in that direction. Their research analysts study that they can generate huge new subscribers. Disney Hotstar’s two web series have hit commercial targets ahead of schedule.
