The temporary scaffolding bridge that collapsed in Espoo’s Tapiola in May 2023 was structurally inadequate and dangerous.
This is what the Accident Investigation Center (Otkes) says, which has completed the investigation into the accident in question.

The scaffolding was part of the temporary traffic arrangements in the Tapiola area. The city of Espoo had ordered the bridge from a scaffolding company operating in the area in 2021.
– The rack manufacturer did not have a type solution suitable for the purpose of use. Thus, structural planning and the application of Eurocodes would have been necessary. Bridge building know-how was not enough and the structures remained weak in many respects. The plans were also not subjected to any kind of inspection, the director of the investigation Kai Valonen says in the announcement.
According to Valonen, no safety deficiencies were detected at any stage.
