Orlando City SC clinched the first victory in history against Atlanta United on Saturday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, winning by a score of 3-1.
Previously, Atlanta United had gone undefeated in eight games against Orlando.
This time, the Florida team took advantage of goals from Junior Urso and Chris Mueller in the first half to take the lead and hold on to it until the end.
Urso shook the ropes at the 13e minute of play by redirecting a Mueller corner kick with a header. The latter hit the target in turn at 35e minute by completing a three-way attack with Benji Michel and Daryl Dike.
The home side regained hope late in the game when Brooks Lennon closed the gap in the 83e minute on a recovery of the head.
But Nani came to seal the outcome of the match three minutes later in a two-on-one climb with Urso.
In front of Atlanta’s net, Brad Guzan gave in on the three shots on target he faced. At the other end of the field, Pedro Gallese repelled three of the opposing shots.
