For caregivers, civil servants, high schools and tourism
The load also consists of medical equipment to fight against the coronavirus: 100,000 visors, 200,000 charlottes, 30,000 full-body suits and 400,000 FFP2 masks.
This Saturday, May 16, the President of the Region explains that the 1.7 million surgical masks will be partly a “buffer” stock intended for caregivers. Didier Robert says that there will also be some for public officials, but also for the staff of high schools on the island and for tourism stakeholders.

Late delivery
The medical equipment that will arrive in Reunion this evening was an order from the Region expected for several weeks already. On April 24, Didier Robert received 200,000 surgical masks at Gillot airport. A reduced and very late delivery which will therefore be completed this evening.
The Region has chartered an Air Austral plane to recover this medical equipment as quickly as possible, which will therefore arrive on the island before the start of the school year scheduled for Monday, May 18.
A machine to make masks locally
In addition, on May 22, the Reunion Region announces that it will charter a new Air Austral device with on board a machine that will make it possible to locally manufacture surgical masks. The device should also carry a new stock of masks which is “an endowment from China to Reunion”, announces Didier Robert.
