The new approach takes insulin orally in tablet form, but dissolves it between the gums and cheek wall instead of ingesting it. It is known that when the tablet dissolves, the insulin is absorbed by the thin membrane of the mouth and reaches the liver without passing through the stomach. In a rat test, insulin reached the liver, not the stomach. Immediate action such as insulin injection is also said to be an important feature.
